I stayed for three nights in the double en-suite room. Jan and Daz were the perfect hosts and the location stunning. Everything, including my hosts, very relaxed and relaxing. I had not appreciated that the breakfasts were vegetarian; did it matter? Not in the slightest. Great food options, beautifully prepared and an introduction to some things I’ve not tried before. All in all a wonderful stay and highly recommended.

Hey Neil, thanks for such a sweet review! It was so lovely to meet you all and to see young Jack's success at the Championship! 3rd in the World - no mean feat!Yes, the Championship wasn't actually names after my family name - but I do hope one day my nephews will come and compete and win in their different age groups. That'd be worthy of an Oban Times front page - I reckon! Best get the boys on the case! See you next year for another win for Jack! Much love to you all from Dazza and I! xx

The two days with Jan and Das were exceptionally beautiful. The house is beautifully situated, the rooms are invitingly cozy and equipped with everything you need. The garden is magically beautiful and is situated on a small lake. The warmth of the hosts cannot be surpassed and the breakfast is delicious with a wide selection, especially of healthy food (including porridge, shakshuka, homemade jam, ...). This B&B was the undisputed number one out of 10 on our 2-week trip through Scotland!!!!

Not knowing what to expect, we chose Garragh Mhor as a stopover on our roadtrip from Andalucia to Moravia. It delivered a superb and unique experience. Our en-suite room was clean and comfortable, and had everything we needed (including NO TV). The vegetarian breakfasts were delicious. We wished we could have stayed longer to try more choices. Our hosts, Jan and Daz, were kind and caring,Easdale is a lovely island with stunning scenery and a true Highland ambiance. We cannot recommend Garragh Mhor highly enough and we hope to return.

We’ve just spent three nights at Garragh Mhorand know how lucky we were to find it and book a room. The rooms are cozy, comfortable, perfect bed and bath linens. The breakfast is the best we’ve been offered anywhere in Scotland.Darren and Jan are welcoming hosts as well as artists who imbue the whole place with their creative, healing energy. There are multiple gardens to sit in—all located an easy walk from The Oyster Bar restaurant , the ferry to Easedale Island and multiple hikes onamazing, magical coves, roads and hills.Worth a detour? Worth a trip!

You would have to be very grumpy or exceedingly pernickety (or maybe both) to complain about this fabulous B+B. From the warm welcome to the lovely rooms with comfortable beds, the creative breakfasts (if only more B+Bs made so much effort!) and the delightful garden, everything was perfect. Jan and Daz are warm and friendly, with great energy, and make everyone immediately feel at home, remembering not only people's names but also their breakfast preferences. The quiet, calm atmosphere leaves you feeling recharged and the blacksmithing is an added bonus. Impossible to fault and highly recommended.

My arrival coincided with some of the sunniest and warmest weather we’ve had yet this year and Argyll was a treat to look at on my journey. But the springtime in bloom en route was nothing compared to what awaited me at the sublime Garragh Mhor! A comfortable room which overlooked the garden and the village, a scrumptious breakfast and easy access to the natural wonders around Easdale combined to make this the perfect get-away-from-it-all. And the exhibition of finely-wrought artworks in iron was an unexpected bonus. Thank you, Jan and Daz, for making my stay so memorable. x

Once a B&B has good beds, plenty hot water, and decent food, it’s all down to the hosts. Garragh Mhor achieves the prerequisites with ease, and then it’s all pluses thanks to hosts Jan and Daz. They strike the perfect balance between being welcoming and helpful and letting you do your own thing. The reviews say it all - it’s just a great place to stay.

This is the second time we've stayed at Garagh Mhor and it won't be the last!We love this place - it's like stepping into a different world, it has an atmosphere of calm and peace rarely found.Jan & Daz have created a real haven here - from the homely, comfortable guest rooms to the beautifully landscaped gardens - Garagh Mhor is somewhere to rest and recharge.Breakfast is another highlight..fabulous food served by Daz while Jan is singing and dancing round the kitchen cooking it. It is a joy!I have rarely felt so genuinely welcomed into any other accommodation. The village is lovely, loads to do..visit nearby Easdale on the little ferry, sit and admire the stunningly beautiful An Cala garden up the road, look for iron pyrites on the slate beaches, climb the mountain behind (it's easier than it looks!) for epic views over the village and islands, particularly at sunset. Cycle to Cuan (or drive) and catch the ferry to Luing -stunning island. As you can tell..we're big fans of Garagh Mhor. Can't wait to return.

What to say about Garragh Mhor? My grown up daughter and I stayed in Ellenbeich at Garragh Mhor for 2 nights recently and booked because of the 9.5 star reviews and the photos posted by previous travellers. In our eyes they did not do justice as this wonderful gem andsuper hosts, Jan and Daz should hands down get 11 out of 10 as everything was perfect. We received a very warm welcome and Jan gave us a heads up on where everything was, and say us down and went through the scrumptious breakfast menu so we could put our order in for the next morning. My daughter chose the granola and fruit with coconut yoghurt and I had Daz’s overnight oats to start followed by the full vegetarian breakfast and shakshuka. All our choices were simply delicious the next morning and set us up for the day.Unfortunately the weather wasn’t that great on our full day there however we chilled and chatted to Jan over breakfast and took our time getting out the door. It was altogether a very relaxing guest house where you can just take your time to stop and be present.Breakfast the next day was just as good and our check out process was easy.We were very sad to leave Garragh Mhor and definitely will be back and highly recommend a stay here.Other great things to do whilst staying are dinner or a lunch at the local pub, The Oyster Bar, a visit to the local folk museum, and take the foot ferry to Easdale Island and visit the local museum and art gallery.Another standout highlight of our stay was the 2hr Sea Fari Adventure. It is definitely not to be missed and will not disappoint.Amazing stay at Garragh Mhor!

Stayed for 4 nights first week of April 2023.Double room en suite with views of sheep, lambs, rabbits and birds on crags behind property.Jan and Daz were lovely hosts - they were warm and friendly and Jan was very knowledgeable about the local area.Daz made us tea on arrival and stayed to chat.We felt like we had made new friends. The room was warm, clean and comfortably furnished with tasteful decor. Daz is a blacksmith and examples of his work abounded in every detail from door hinges and hooks to handles and some examples of his wheelwright work. The breakfasts are wholly vegetarian and the choices were varied and interesting.I tried Daz's overnight oats and fruit, buckwheat pancakes and the shakshuka - all super tasty. My husband usually likes his bacon and sausages but enjoyed the veggie full Scottish breakfast just as much.We highly recommend this B & B . One of the best we have ever stayed at.Thanks Jan and Daz!

We stayed for three nights and had a wonderful time at Garragh Mhor. We received a warm welcome and Jan helped us book a meal at the Oyster Bar that evening. She was very knowledgable about the local area and gave good advice. The room was lovely, beds very comfortable and the herbal remedy to help with sleep was a nice touch. It’s a very peaceful cottage and has a lovely atmosphere. The breakfasts were superb and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back. I can recommend the B&B to anyone and guarantee you will receive a warm welcome. It is a great base to have to explore the area.

If you want somewhere quiet in a great location with excellent hosts and brilliant breakfasts, I would recommend the buckwheat pancakes then this is the place for you. Our room was spotless and very comfortable with a nice view out onto the garden. The garden is worth exploring with various spots to sit and chill out with plenty of wildlife. The Oyster Pub, local village museum, and shops are but a short walk away.

My daughter and I had a lovely 3 night stay here. Welcoming and helpful hosts. Cosy twin room.Lots of quirky features- like the cute wee private seating areas in the wonderful gardens and the slate provided to leave a message on which is then added to a wall of blessings. Excellent location for getting to other Slate islands( Luing/Easdale) and a five minute walk to The Oyster Bar or ten minute drive to Tigh an Truish restaurant. Pretty good choices for a remote setting. Great breakfast options for my vegetarian daughter ( superfood porridge, shakshuka, overnight oats, buck wheat pancakes- a nice change from veggie sausages and eggs .Would definitely recommend.

Response
Hey Caroline, Tam! So glad you had a wonderful stay again and everything was to your liking. Thanks for the feedback about the TV. We actually did a poll of our guests in 2021, to see if people really wanted us to replace the old TV sets that were really beyond the pale. The overwhelming majority came back with a "Get rid of the TVs!" -Interesting hey? Most people bring their own devices and run movies through their laptops if they want some entertainment. People also commented that they came to Garragh Mhor to "Get away from 'all that!'". Wet went with the majority as our Broadband is good and shelf space was also a consideration. Anyway - maybe bear that in mind for next year!? All the best, and many thanks! DnJ xx

The overnight oats were also fabulous, a great start to the day!The hosts were very knowledgeable about the area and gave us all the info needed. Also had a lovely night with Jan and a guest who brought his guitar along. Very pleasant management, good breakfasts, rooms a tad tight. I don't know if the TV works and it's not their fault that the mobile phone reception is poor on some services. Nor was it their fault that Covid 19 closed the local pub/restaurant for evening meals. We'd be happy to return in more settled times.

Jan and Daz were great hosts, and our stay was fabulous, just too short, we should have booked longer! Our room Insh was en-suite and very comfortable, exprecially the bed, and the view from the windows just stunning. The vegan breakfasts were delicious and filling (we had tofu shakshuka on one day, and coconut pancakes with strawnerries / raspberries on the other day). The location is unbeatable, right on the coast, and minutes away from the Seafari sailing point so we went on a whale watching boat trip. Jan recommended we try the Tigh an Truish inn close by for dinner, and that was a winner of a suggestion too. Daz showed us his very creative work in his gallery, he is a farrier and wheelwright and fashions some incredible objects such as heavy doorknobs and handles on commission and it was so interesting to see his collection of houseshoes dating back to 4 hundreds - 2 thousands of years old. 10/10 all around and we hope to be back next year.

Considering we only stayed a couple of nights we really got a feel for the place, the atmosphere is very friendly and the rooms were cosy, we slept like logs! The only thing I will say is there could be more hot water available, I started running a bath and the water went cold within a matter of minutes and when I went to take a shower as a plan b, still no hot water and had to go without but other than that there were no faults, we had a great stay!

Garragh Mhor is a very special place - for us it was a place to rest and restore our batteries! As a B&B it ticks all the boxes... clean, comfortable, fabulous breakfast and it's in a great location and has all the little touches you'd expect in a well run establishment.BUT... it has something else... it has Jan & Daz running it! They have created something very special here - a sanctuary from the frenetic pace of the outside world! They are easy going and genuinely interested in their guests without being intrusive - they've really created a little bit of magic! It is such a happy place - from Jan singing and dancing away in the kitchen while cooking breakfast to Daz talking about his passion for his forge and his creativity - it's a breath of fresh air!A stay at Garragh Mhor is a treat and leaves you feeling truly rested and refreshed.I have absolutely no doubt we will return.

The owners were incredibly welcoming and made us feel immediately at home. The rooms were warm, clean and super comfortable and a shared space conservatory was the perfect place to unwind with a book. The vegan and vegetarian breakfast was really delicious with a huge amount of choice - all you could want. Jan and Daz are great hosts and we already can't wait to visit again. Jan and Daz made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. The house was warm and comfortable. They booked us into the pub for our evening meal. They went out of their way to help us make the most of our break. Breakfast was wonderful and I felt very spoilt. As a gluten free vegan I inevitably have to 'make do' when we go away. At Garragh Mhor they are gluten free and cater for vegans so I was able to have a different breakfast each morning. Would definitely recommend this B&B for a relaxing age well fed break.

Hey Douglas, thanks you so much for taking the time to write this lovely review!I am glad the new menu didn\'t put you off and you enjoyed your breakfast! We are getting some lovely feedback which is great. It is really lovely to be getting to know you too.Our other guests remarked before leaving what an enjoyable level of chat and banter there was in the dining room on Sunday - I could hear from the kitchen a lot of laughter and your voice being central to that - thanks for sharing your sense of humour and fun it clearly made an impression on our other guests and it is so nice to hear. Looking forward to seeing you again later in the summer.Very best, Jan & Daz xx

fter visiting Garragh Mhor in August I paid a return visit for Xmas. Jan & Daz were open for the festive period & were offering a short break for people looking to escape from the commercial frenzy of yuletide at home.In addition to her usual tasty, cooked breakfasts Jan provided fine meals each evening and Xmas dinner itself was quite sumptuous. Who would have thought that vegetarian cuisine could be so varied and appetising? On Xmas Day night Daz fired up the brazier and we guests adjourned to outside chairs. Shep had brought his guitar along & played some great classics that everyone could sing along to.Then during the day some local walking had been planned. The coastline in this part of Scotland is wonderfully indented whilst out to sea the bay is sprinkled with numerous islands. My double-bed room was very comfortable for the 3-night stay and plenty warm enough for a mid-winter break.

I have not written a review on Trip Adviser for a while as I generally now don't bother with It, However I recently had a short trip up to Scotland to a small location called Ellenabeich and stayed at the B and B know as Garragh Mhor.It Is run by Jan and Darren who are possibly the most down to Earth, relaxed chilled out couple I have ever met. They have only been running the place since May this year 2018 and as such have a lot to learn about the B and B trade, but they are doing a fantastic job so far. The only downside Is that the WIFI Is a bit limited to certain areas In the building at the moment but they are sorting this out and should not be a problem much longer.I stayed there for four days, three of which were raining continually so was glad of the shower and warm room, talking of the rooms they are spotless, clean and bright and are nice to come back to after a day out. I arrived at Garragh Mhor as a guest but left as a friend and I wish Jan and Darren every success In the future and I will definitely be back In the near future.

Unfortunately we were only there for one night. Warm room, very comfortable bed, immaculately clean. The breakfast choice was excellent, starting with cereals and a wide selection of fresh fruit and nuts. I followed this with a cooked vegetarian breakfast, what they did with fresh tomatoes was wonderful. My wife had the freshly cooked pancakes with fresh fruit, lovely. The location is special, at the end of a long lovely road with views over the islands and out to the open sea.

We had such a wonderful time with Jan and Daz in their wonderful B&B in an idyllic part of Scotland. They were welcoming and we felt so relaxed during our stay. The breakfasts were just delicious with a great choice of options to try. My personal favourite was the scrambled eggs and salmon which was just divine! Our room was clean and tidy, as was the sunroom and dining room. The communal sunroom was filled with books and sea-themed decoration and our room was great. We made use of the outdoor seating area and the back garden, filled will lovely flowers along the verges. The gorgeous location was stunning with tall hills, a lake, a pebble beach and a harbour. The village is lovely with a great pub with great food and a wonderful walk up into the hills overlooking the sea or the pebble beach or harbour. A short boat ride over to Easedale Island is a must and for the braver traveller, a swim in one of the four lovely quarry pools is a recommended. We had a wonderful time that we will not forget and hope to visit Jan and Daz next year!!!

Returning from a week in the Highlands I visited Ellenabeich on the Isle of Seil. Checking into Garragh Mhor my plan was to stay a couple of nights. I was still there a week later.Hosts Jan & Daz were just so welcoming and although it was their busy period they soon found some space for me. The food was amazing. Plenty of fresh fruit or cereal for starters followed by cooked breakfasts of choice. My own particular favourite was a stack of buckwheat pancakes served with yogurt, fruit & maple syrup. My room was very comfortable, spacious and well-appointed and if the Gypsy caravan in the garden is made available I’d stay in there too.Situated on the edge of the village it’s fine place to stay when exploring the area. Evidence of the fascinating Slate Industry is everywhere and there are great RIB boat trips from the harbour to view the local wildlife and learn about the unique history & geology in this corner of Scotland.

We stayed there for a couple of nights along a weekend and we can only say that it was a lovely experience. The room was clean and tidy, very comfortable and included an ensuite bathroom. The breakfast is amazing with lot of choices, including vegans and vegetarians options. The location is outstanding, couldn´t be better. Very quiet place in a hide-away location (Ellenabeich, Easdale) with super-views. It is perfect to stay away from our every day stressful crowded and noisy city life. Jan and her partner were really good hosts giving always advise and suggestions for the local area. They transmitted us very positive vibes. We would recommend this B&B to everybody

his picturesque B&B up in the highest Scotland is amazing. The views are breathtaking and the tranquil surroundings are so relaxing. The room was very clean and was a fair size, given I was traveling alone. Normally when you book a single room your given the box room. It had all the normal tea / coffee and bickies ect facilities that you’d expect.Jan the lady who owns and runs the place is super helpful and cooks an amazing breakfast. It was whilst eating breakfast and talking to Jan about, how I had woken up with no blocked nose and no sneezing that I discovered why. Jan vacuums all her rooms and beds / mattress’s after each guest leaves, with a vacuum cleaner called the Rainbow. Apparently it uses water instead of bags and filters and deep cleans her mattresses, to remove all the dead skin and dust mite droppings. Yuck!!!That I must normally breath in, hence my blocked nose and sneezing.Jan is really into her healthy lifestyle and it’s refreshing to know that she takes her guests health seriously as well.I would definitely recommend staying here especially if like me your suffer with allergies.Keep up the amazing work Jan and I look forward to staying with you again in September.ThanksGeraldine

Garragh Mhor is a very comfortable B&B, with simple but comfortable rooms, cleaned everyday by Trish herself, in a very quiet area while not being so far from Oban. Trish will welcome you with a big smile, always keen to share the good sites to be visited in the area. She will prepare a very good breakfast for you with the help of her husband Steve, and will take a moment to discuss with you and make sure you have a good stay. You feel welcome and at ease to relax for a few days.

These were the best few days away that we have ever had.The location is stunning, peaceful and mystical with hill climbing, walks and boat trips to enjoy diverse wildlife and scenery.Garragh Mhor is an inviting, comfortable cottage with Trish's generous nature ensuring an engagingwelcome. Breakfast warrants special mention; deliciously cooked, huge Scottish breakfast and a wide variety of fruits, cereal, juices and yogurt. Nothing is too much trouble for Trish's guests. Trish is also an ambassador for her island; giving helpful information and ideas to make the most of our holiday. The rooms want for nothing. Beds are comfortable, shower hot, TV, wi-fi, drink making facilities, wardrobe space, all perfect. The sun room and pretty garden add home comforts to the accommodation where attention to detail matters. We clung to the hillsides by our fingernails, slid across slate shores, talked nonsense to the sheep and were in awe of the circling birds of prey. We walked, talked, relaxed, breathed in the sea air, loved the sun on our faces and thoroughly relished being surrounded by nature.Thank you, Trish and Steve. The first of many visits.

I was there for one of the very early Seafari adventures which meant missing breakfast but Trish was very kind and did a late breakfast for the folk on the trip - nothing was too much for this very welcoming B&B and the lovely couple that run it. Garragh Mhor is a lovely, clean and welcoming B&B and Trish makes you feel 'looked after' and offers genuine Scottish hospitality. Breakfast was substantial and excellent, as was an evening meal. Home-made shortbread was a lovely wee treat and any dietary requirements are well-catered for by Trish.Highly recommended.

We stayed just one night in this lovely b&b but we sure hope to be back soon for a longer visit. I fell in love with this beautiful town and its sceneries. Our room was very comfortable and well-furnished, and I especially enjoyed my bed right next to the window. Our host was so kind to make a reservation for us at the local pub and make us some tea before going to bed. There's a lovely room with a small porch for relaxing and using wi-fi connection. Breakfast was good and rich, and we bet their dog Angus would've loved a taste of it!

We stayed for a few nights with our adult son and his wife. The bedrooms were nice and quiet & comfortable. The breakfast was really good and Trish and her husband Steve were really nice. Did some hicking out back of the B&B and went on a wildlife boat tour with Steve as our Captain! All had a great time. Good value for such a nice home and setting.

We arrived at Ellenabeich on what was the school bus run, dropping off young people at every farm adn ferry on the way. Met at the bus stop by Trish (in case we got lost!) and welcomed into her home with tea and cake. A very pleasant and welcoming visit, full of local information and knowledge, lovely breakfast and a great and peaceful place to stay; plenty connections to buses back into Oban as well.

Trish is the most welcoming landlady. We were given tea and home made sticky flapjack on arrival, as well as homemade short bread in our rooms, which were compact but beautifully presented. She couldn't have been more helpful and breakfast was outstanding. We will definitely be going back!

We stayed here prior to a Seafari voyage to view the Corryvreckan whirlpool. It is a splendid B&B. Trish was very welcoming and explained how easy it was to get to the pier. We were able to leave our car in their carpark until after the voyage. Our room was comfortable and the breakfast superb. One of the very best. It's a must-stay if you're going on a sea trip from Easdale. But book early!!

Trish and Steve were great hosts for our brief stay. There were no complaints at our very late arrival and the room was lovely and warm and comfortable. A cracking breakfast left us very full and they were helpful with showing us where we needed to go for our trip out to Corryvreckan. We hope to be back later this year.

This was a two night stop off on a long drive from Leeds to Oban. Brilliant place: Immaculate, well appointed, great shower. They could not have been more friendly, helpful and welcoming. I'd guess very recently refurbished - we loved it. Atmospheric costal setting with wonderful views across the isles. Easy ferry to Easdale (3 min no cars) decent pub restaurant 2 minute walk with a few novelty attractions nearby. Great value, we will revisit.

Lovely hotel, with very friendly staff although they were busy and we did have to wait for them at reception when we arrived and at the bar as they were doing other jobs too.Unfortunately we missed out on our champagne as it wasn't offered on arrival and then we forgot to ask for it - a voucher to hand over would be helpful when you check in. Weather was awful so we missed the beautiful views of the loch, food was excellent and we would go back.

This is a great little B&B. Trish gave us a very warm welcome and is a friendly and knowledgable host. Our nautical themed bedroom was warm and cosy with a comfy bed, really good hot shower and a view out over the lovely garden. The breakfasts are tasty with plenty of fresh fruit and berries, to go with a good cooked choice. The house is very well located for exploring the Slate Islands and the Oban area. We cycled around Crinan, Knapdale, Tayvallich and beyond and then explored Easedale before heading to Luing.
